While missing the cold and snow of the Minnesota nights I often found myself looking back at the images of this former mill in Minneapolis.
Looking back through photographs I took in Minneapolis I often come to the images I took at the site of the Fruen Mill near Theodore Worth Park on a chilly winter night. The sheer mass of these str…

I spent a few hours photographing dogs at the Ellis County SPCA again yesterday. I tried to get through as many as I could since I will be on vacation next week and made it through a record nine dogs.
One of the dogs, who was too cute for words, was a three month old Greyhound Mix puppy named Zita. She was a sweet, loving, and playful puppy. Check out her and any of the other available dogs at the Ellis County SPCA if you are looking for a new addition to your family.
Yesterday I once again ventured to the Ellis County SPCA to take photographs of the dogs. I took pictures of more than I had on any other visit, lots of new intakes! The cutest pup I got to work wi…

If you’re in the mood for a stroll through the streets of the City of Light, look no further than Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Eiffel Tower itself may not stand majestically on the horizon, but no…
I recently put together a piece about my inspirations as an artist. I looked at the work I most enjoy creating, night photography. Looking back at when my work during the twilight hours all began I thought about the artists who most inspired me and pushed me to create better work. I came up with three artists:
The first two both have an exceptional body of work in the world after sundown. Brassai was a early to mid 20th century photography who mostly worked in Paris. Chris Faust is a Minnesota native who still uses film to capture the magical movement of light across the landscape. Both inspired me in different ways and made me look at things from unique perspectives. Alec Soth is another Minnesota artist who has inspired me to think deeper about the places I photograph from reading his blogs and interviews.
Please take the time to check out the post and my thoughts as well as images from me and the artists I discuss here:
Nothing Screams Paris Like St. Paul
Well I am a sucker for Huskies….especially with the brown/blue eyes. Sasha was a wonderful lady who could use a forever home. She was surprisingly calm and a loving lady. Check out my post about her or visit the Ellis County SPCA to check out her and other available animals.
Last week during my visit to the Ellis County SPCA to photograph the dogs I got to work with Sasha. She was a beautiful dog (I love Huskies…) and surprised with her calm demeanor. She loved walki…

I recently sat down and thought about my inspirations. Why do I create the images I make? Who helped me to further my knowledge and skills of the process?
I decided to discuss two artists who’s work I found to be inspirational throughout my work in the twilight world creating night images.
Photography in itself is magic. You capture a space and time as it once existed, and will never exist exactly the same again. Recently I was reading an essay from Minnesota photographer Alec Soth. …

On days where I have the time I take a afternoon drive (maybe I am becoming an old man in a small town?). Now I have Milo to ride with me, which makes the drives even better. These trips are good for scouting locations for night photography, but I also just enjoy the relaxation and the idea I have nowhere specific to go. Exploration is always fun. Here are a few photographs from these drives and some thoughts on North Texas.
Before moving to Texas I always envisioned the wide open desert and cattle lands. Part of this image is the roads and trails that led to the American West. Once you are off the major highways and i…

Oh yes, another one of the great dogs I got to work with at the Ellis County SPCA. It is so hard not to bring them all home! George was so wonderful and a beautiful large dog. He is a Mastiff mix. Anybody would be lucky to have him in their life. Please check him and the other animals out at the shelter.
While photographing the animals at the shelter two weeks ago I got to work with George. He is a Mastiff mix and looks absolutely beautiful. He is an amazingly gently and calm pup. He loved to be pe…
